Who killed King Saul? The archers wounded him. He fell on his own sword. An Amalekite claimed the final blow. But the truth? Saul participated in his own demise.
The enemy can wound you, but he cannot kill you unless you help him. You may have arrows in your back, but if you're still breathing, you're not dead. The devil wants to convince you it's over—that the wound is fatal. But God says otherwise.
Psalm 118:17 declares: "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." Stop participating with the enemy's plan. Stop falling on your own sword. As long as there's breath in your body, God has a purpose for your life.
Don't give the enemy what belongs to God. You're anointed. You're still breathing. You're going to live and declare His goodness.

Practical Applications
Memorize and Declare: Commit Psalm 118:17 to memory. When the enemy attacks your mind this week, speak this verse aloud:
"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD."

Personal Reflection
Take 15-20 minutes alone with God and honestly answer:
  • What "arrows" am I currently carrying in my body (wounds, hurts, offenses)?
  • Have I been participating in the enemy's plan to destroy my joy, peace, or spiritual walk?
  • What do I need to surrender to God for healing?
Action Steps
1.  Stop the negative self-talk. Every time you catch yourself saying "I can't make it" or "It's over," replace it with Psalm 118:17.
2.  Forgive someone. If unforgiveness is one of the arrows wounding you, choose this week to extend forgiveness (whether they deserve it or not).
3.  Return to prayer. If you've allowed the enemy to steal your prayer time, recommit to daily communion with God.
4.  Encourage someone else. Find someone who seems wounded and remind them they're not dead—they're going to live and declare God's works.

Deeper Reflection
  • What spoke to you most powerfully from this message?
  • How will you live differently this week because of what you've heard?
  • What is one specific thing you're going to stop "participating" in with the enemy?
Prayer Focus
Pray for:
  • Healing from wounds inflicted by the enemy's arrows
  • Strength to resist the devil's lies and deceptions
  • Unity in the body of Christ to fight the real enemy together
  • Renewed joy, peace, and purpose
  • Those who feel like giving up—that they would know they're not dead, but alive with purpose
Remember: You're still breathing. You're not dead. You're going to live and declare the works of the Lord!

Key Takeaways
  1. The enemy cannot kill you by himself—he needs your participation.
    • The devil's greatest weapon is deception, convincing you that you're finished when you're only wounded.
  2. As long as you're breathing, you're not dead.
    • God's breath of life is still in you, which means God still has a purpose for you.
  3. No weapon formed against you shall prosper.
    • Being wounded doesn't mean the weapon prospered. You can still overcome.
  4. Don't fight the wrong enemy.
    • Unity among believers is essential. We must focus on the real adversary, not each other.
  5. What's in your heart matters more than what's in your head.
    • Heart transformation leads to lasting change and keeps you connected to God's purpose.

5 Day Devotion

Day 1: The Anointing Cannot Be Destroyed
Reading: 1 Samuel 24:1-7; Psalm 105:15

Devotional: David refused to harm Saul despite having the perfect opportunity, recognizing that God's anointing remained upon him regardless of his failures. This teaches us a profound truth: what God has anointed cannot be destroyed by human hands or circumstances. You may have made mistakes, taken wrong turns, or feel far from where you once were spiritually, but God's anointing on your life remains. The enemy wants you to believe you're disqualified, but your past does not erase God's calling. Today, remember that God's gifts and callings are irrevocable. What He has placed within you still has purpose. Don't let wounds from yesterday convince you that God is finished with you. His anointing endures.

Day 2: Wounded But Not Dead
Reading: Psalm 118:13-18; 2 Corinthians 4:7-10

Devotional: King Saul was pierced by arrows, wounded grievously, yet still breathing. The enemy's greatest deception is convincing you that being wounded means being finished. You may have been hit by arrows of disappointment, betrayal, loss, or failure. The pain is real, the wound is deep, but check your pulse—you're still breathing. As long as there is breath in your body, God has not finished His work in you.

Paul declared, "We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed." Memorize Psalm 118:17: "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." Speak this over yourself today. You're wounded, yes, but you're not dead.

Day 3: Don't Participate in Your Own Demise
Reading: James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8-9

Devotional: The devil cannot kill you by himself—he needs your participation. Saul's tragedy was not the archer's arrow or the Philistine's sword, but his own decision to give up. He kept asking others to finish him off until he found someone who would. How often do we hand the enemy the weapon to destroy us? Through unforgiveness, bitterness, destructive thoughts, or walking away from God's presence, we assist in our own spiritual death. The enemy is prowling, seeking whom he may devour, but James gives us the antidote: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." Stop agreeing with the enemy's narrative. Refuse to thrust the sword through yourself. Resist, and watch him flee.

Day 4: Fight the Real Enemy
Reading: Ephesians 6:10-13; 2 Chronicles 20:15

Devotional: Saul spent more time fighting David than fighting the Philistines. He wasted his anointing pursuing the wrong enemy. How much energy do we expend fighting each other—jealous of others' gifts, envious of their blessings, competing instead of cooperating? Meanwhile, the real enemy advances unopposed. Paul reminds us, "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers." Your battle is not with your brother or sister in Christ. Stop fighting those who should be fighting alongside you. When we unite in one mind and one accord, arm in arm, we become a formidable force against the true adversary. The battle belongs to the Lord, but He's called us to stand together. Redirect your energy toward the real enemy today.

Day 5: The Heart Makes the Difference
Reading: 1 Samuel 13:14; Psalm 51:10-12; 1 Samuel 16:7

Devotional: Saul had everything from the shoulders up—appearance, stature, intellect—but David had something far greater: a heart after God. When David sinned, his heart always brought him back to repentance. He prayed, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." God looks beyond our outward qualifications to what's happening in our hearts. You may not be the most talented, the most eloquent, or the most impressive, but if your heart is aligned with God's purposes, He can use you powerfully. What's in your heart will always find its way to the outside. Guard your heart above all else. When you mess up, let your heart drive you back to God's presence, not away from it. God is looking for hearts that are fully His.
